Meet Emérita Torres:

A Champion for the Bronx

Emerita Torres is a passionate advocate for the Bronx, deeply rooted in her Puerto Rican heritage and committed to her community. With a rich background in public policy and diplomacy, Emerita has dedicated her career to addressing economic inequities and promoting prosperity and justice.

Her previous roles, including over a decade as a U.S. diplomat and Director of Policy Research and Programs at The Soufan Center, have prepared her to tackle the critical issues facing our district today.

As Vice President of Policy, Research, and Advocacy at the Community Service Society of New York, she leads efforts to improve the lives of low-income communities, including policies and programs that advance economic opportunity, tenants’ rights and homeownership opportunities, and transit affordability. 

Emerita has championed local initiatives to create economic opportunities, expand affordable housing, and expand civic engagement in the Bronx. She has a proven track record of advocating for workers’ rights and supporting community development.
